Anker GaN USB-C charger, 65 W

A compact supply that charges a laptop from USB-C without a brick the size of the laptop.

Photograph illustrates the category, not this exact model.

What it is good at

  • Being small enough to leave in a bag because of the switched-mode design
  • Negotiating USB-C Power Delivery so the laptop charges at its own rate
  • Replacing a stack of separate supplies with one brick

Check before you buy

  • What the laptop draws, since some 14-inch machines want more than 65 W under load
  • Whether the ports share power, and how the split changes when the second one is used
  • Whether it has folding pins and a detachable cable for travel

Who it is not for

Anyone with a laptop that needs a higher sustained draw, or a device with a barrel jack that never moved to USB-C.

Gallium nitride matters because it switches faster and wastes less heat than the older silicon parts, so the same wattage fits in a much smaller case. That is the whole reason a laptop supply now fits in a jacket pocket.

The number to read carefully is per port, not total. A 65 W unit usually gives its full output to a single USB-C port, then divides that budget once a second cable is inserted, and the power table on the side of the brick says exactly how.
